Thinking of upgrading my current unit.
Buying a XP 2100+ and a friend is offering to sell me his Asus A7V266-E. what do you experts think of this mobo or is there another better one. I'm not very experienced in Athlons, always used Intel.

Also thinking of using my current Creative card, Soundblaster Live.

Thanks

At this point, I would go with a ddr333 board, I think iwill makes the best one currently available...the via 266 chipset is being phased out, 333 is the way to go...

Depends on how much your friend wants for his A7V266-E if he is selling it real cheap buy it, if not buy an Asus A7V333 it was released for sale on the 20th and it is priced about the same as the A7V266-E

I think Windows XP and Microsoft use more of my bandwidth than I do!

Taken from Anand Tech article:

That pretty much sums up all that can be said about the KT333; it wasn't as hard hitting of a launch as the KT266A but that's understandable given the limited improvements. The KT333 is a natural replacement for the KT266A and if AMD does ever move to a 166MHz FSB you can expect VIA to be there with a KT333A chipset to match. The bottom line is that today, DDR333 doesn't result in any tangible performance improvements but if paired with a 166MHz DDR FSB the boost could be quite tangible.
