Well, I've come full circle, the problem that originally brought me to pcguide over a year ago had been resolved, but now the troublesome hard drive is on its last legs (LOUD high-pitched whine probably means the bearings are going).

So, I'm in the market to replace the 4gb drive with a new one...I don't need any more storage than 4gb, but the smallest drive I can find is a 5gb Fujitsu for $69 from xtradisk.com.

Just wondering if anybody had any experience with laptop drives, good manufacturers, or knew where to get a better deal.

As always, thanks...

I’ve always had good luck with IBM drives in laptops.
Unfortunately they don’t come cheap
But they do last.

Yeah, I can get a 6gb IBM for about $100...I thought about getting a bigger drive, but I'm only using 2.13gb of this disk now and truthfully, I don't know how much longer this laptop is going to last, it's already 5 yrs. old, so I don't want to spend lots of dough on it...

Thanks, if I can find a cheaper IBM, that's the way I'll go...as for now, the horrible noise is gone, so maybe the drive will last a while longer. That will give me more time to check...
