I'm not sure why you would need the serial number off of a monitor if you are only planning to purchase it... a quick google yielded some reviews:

thanks for the welcome!
You sure it isn't amodel number or part number? I deal with plenty of big retailers of computer parts, and NONE require a serial number to order. The only reason they ask for a SN is if you want to get an extended warranty, warranty service, things like that.

i think what he said is he is that the samsung guy is going to use the serial number to get my dad a free one. not sure how that is going to work, but seeing that my dad is in direct connection with the person who works at samsung, i think he knows what he is doing.

i have tried going to a couple stores here to look at the back of a monitor to get the serial number, but i havent found one that carries the 244t.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking (and I was a little suspicious because using someone else's serial number for a warranty could constitute fraud, and I we want to stay out of that kind of thing).
kfrank, maybe talk to your father and see if he needs the serial number or just the model number.

definitely the serial number. i have asked him a zillion times to make sure. another question: do you think the samsung 24" or the dell 30" is better. i know the dell is bigger, but which monitor is better quality?

I have the Samsung 244T but I will not give you my SN and anyone else that would give you theirs is stupid. I will sell it to you for $840.00 because that is how much I would be out if mine dies in the next 3 years after you cashed in my warranty.
Now back to the monitor. It is awesome and it is huge weighs 20+ lbs 23"W X 20"H X 10"D with the stand at its lowest setting and it is 5 1/2" wider than my 204T with the same flawless picture Quality. No ghosting in games. Very bright I had to turn down the brightness.
If your dad does steal one for you be sure your video card can support a 1920 X 1200 resolution and has a DVI port. The 244T does not do very well at lower resolutions or attached via the VGA port
