since yahoo now wants to charge for their service, i have to find another alternative. i've found quite a few by searching google, but i want to find out what some other people are using and get their opinions. the main feature i am looking for is mail forwarding.

I have tried several, but have gone back/stayed with hotmail. tends to be a spam collector, but I did a little experiment about 5 - 6 weeks ago

I opened 2 accounts, followed through the instructions dilligently. & then told nobody either of these adresses...,

1st account, ticked all boxes (directory entry, special offers etc.)
this account is now consistently full of spam.

2nd account, unticked all boxes & followed secuirty & anti spam
sections (making it secure)
Have only recieved 1 e-mail in this account, ie:

From Hotmail/subject: Welcome to hotmail

i was kind of thinking about hotmail because i used to have an account with them years ago, but i've been hesitant to sign up again because of it being a spam collector. however, based on your findings vic, it may not be a bad choice. i'll look into it and try your suggestions. thanks for your input.

Yahoo charging for their service?

Hello,

Important service announcement regarding your POP3 or Mail Forwarding service. Please read on.

Effective April 24, 2002, Yahoo! Mail will no longer provide free POP3 Access or Auto Mail Forwarding to Yahoo! Delivers subscribers.

If you would like to continue using Mail Forwarding or POP3 Access, please subscribe to our improved package that allows you to...

They will only be charging for POP3 access and/or forwarding (Web-based mail will still be free, after you go untick all the "spam magnets" that they added).

Hi All,
I agree with Vic, I have three emails one's full of spam.
One I only use for shopping etc.
And now an Hotmail address which was recomended to me by most of the guy's/gals here.
As Vic said be careful what you tick, I ticked some wrong boxes.
But I only get 1 or 2 junk mails a day and you can filter them and block them.

mjc - you caught my mistake. i shouldn't have said "charge for their service." i'm currently using yahoo as one of my accounts and i need mail forwarding. therefore based on them charging for forwarding, i need to find another service that will allow this for free. but other than that, the web based service by yahoo has been good.

thanks for making that clear for others.

No problem.......that was my intent from the start.

thanks for making that clear for others.

But it is beginning to look like more and more of the "free" services that we have grown used to are going to go the way of the dinosaurs...

Read couple of articles lately that pertain to YAHOO and
spam.

If I understood it correctly Yahoo will begin to allow
spam mail in the near future. Thier own! Which will
probably become Heavy-Duty.

Yeah, they basically changed their "Marketing Preferences" form being default "NO" to default "yes" and upped the number form about a dozen categories to about 30...but if you get it before they start (later this month) you should be able to head it off at the pass...I hope!

i too am disappointed in Yahoo's! decision, however Excite still offer's free forwarding to any account-not just a POP one.

You just give them a forwarding email address; then set up a filter to delete from their own server the spam letters they will send you while still recieving the email you want.
