I'm in the market on buying a camera and would like to know if I need my O.S. cd when I start downloading pictures into my computer? Someone told me you need it everytime you add a device or hardware to your computer. Is this true?

Howdy

The camera should come a CD that will have the drivers you need as well as some sort of software for viewing your pictures. I don't believe you will need the OS CD for anything.

It depends on the Operating System you are running.
And the connection you use.
Win98 will require you to have the win install disk to complete the install.
Unless you have a like device already installed and working
Not all the required O/S files are installed by default or by the device drivers.

Hmmm

Maybe the brand of camera matters...Sony DSC-S70 USB
If I recall my Sony camera installed from the CD supplied with it...
no OS CD required (98SE)

Same camera installed on a second computer (XP) didn't even need the driver CD...XP recognized the camera automaticlly
