There are alot of good things abaout VIA also, I think alot of the bad things have to do with how well the particular manufacturer follows the reference design. Also a number of VIA boards are very particular when it comes to RAM, they only like the good stuff.

That said, the are alternatives like the SiS chipset boards or the AMD chipset boards. But if you do a search on either of them you will find that there are problems with those also, it just doesn't seem like the is such a thing as a perfect chipset. Each on has slightly diferent problems but htey all have the faithful admirers and just as faithful detractors...

VIA played catch-up for a long time trying to stay more or less
even with the periphials market game. And has came a long way
since the days of the KT133. IMHO the KT266A chipset is as good
as anything on the market. Benchmarks are the proof.

The SiS 735/745 chipsets are excellent and will benchmark very close
to the VIA KT266A. SiS had a good idea here.

The AMD 761 is slow and it uses the "old" VIA 686B for a SouthBridge
but it is reliable. Have used this chipset on a GA-7DX since it came
out for my stand-by PC with no regrets.

AliMagic still seems to be a bad word. Although it's improved.

nVdia chipset recieved great reviews but the Jury is still out.

I use an Epox 8K7A and an MSI K7T Pro2-A both with the KT266A
chipset. Also a Leadtek 7350KDA and a Soltek 75DRV2 both with the
Sis 735 chipset. Which do I like the best(chipset)? Flip a coin.

The VIA KT333? We'll have to wait and see. It's all about bandwith.

But please keep in mind... a chipset can only be as good as the
BIOS program it works with.

Luck.
