I've been fiddling with high power computers now for a few years and last week I picked up a Compaq Deskpro 4000 Pentium 133, retired from BofA for $10 bucks to experiment with instead of one of the newer computers. So far on 1.6 gig HDD I am dual booting W98se and W2K and all apps that I've tried out work perfectly. Case in point is that a computer this old remains a viable choice if necessary and they can be fun, although Windows 2000 runs a little choppy with only 32megs of memory. Have fun@ it

Yep,like2be, we agree. I (as the wife) am grateful, though, that we don't live in a place like LA where there are tons of places to buy older systems...we have enough as it is! We now have "puter" parts scattered over my husband's entire office, the garage, and now my office is in danger of encroachment. And we do have an older system that my husband plays with/tests on..very handy. Reminds me of a recent post in the After Hours section where one statement was similar to "A complex system that doesn't work will have evolved from a simpler system that did." I think that applies to some of the newer systems and software...but maybe I am just getting old. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Dear Kayofcircles,
Will you please have a talk with my wife about these things. Her favorite expression these days is "HUSBAND FOR SALE, KEYBOARD AND MODEM INCLUDED"
You were nice to respond. Have a great day...

I like that! But I look at it this way..while my husband is drooling over new puter parts (he often takes the Tiger Direct catalog to bed to read, for pity sakes!), and browsing happily through the local (only one, thankfully) flea market..he is too busy to chase other women. Right? No "idle hands" or brains here. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif By the way, he will be green with envy on your $10 purchase when I tell him later.
