I just discovered this site and have a question about a specific board. I am going to build my first machine and have some what decided on a Soyo-K7V Dragon+. I am interested in any opinions and general coments about this board or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. One other thing as far as cases and power supplys go, I was thinking about a Antec 880plus or a 660plus. There would be a CD/DVD, CD/RW,40gigHD, Floppy and Zip also GFti200 Vid card and Santa Cruz sound card. Will also try XP again.
Thanks DCD.

Yes, I've heard good things about the Dragon+, but I can't remember if it supports the Athlon XP. Does it? I assume so with the "+". Your list of parts, tho, includes 4 IDE/ATA devices; since any one of those other devices would slow down your hard drive, I suggest either a mobo with RAID (does the Dragon+ have this also?) or a PCI IDE card for pluggin in a few of those (the Zip Drive and/or CD-RW would be my first choice).

I have an Antec SX1030 myself and love it, but I presume you want a smaller version? The 880plus sounds good but that's as low as I would go given your parts. The 660 gives the impression of cramped spaces and overheating. With an AMD processor and a GF3 vid card, I recommend at least 2 case fans besides the power supply one and I'm not sure the 660 could house all that. Oh and the 880 comes with a 300W power supply, right? You'll need at least that much.

Are you sure you only want a 40 gigger hard drive, tho? I have 60, and I can already forsee the need for more space before I'm "done" with my current config (ie my whole platform becomes too slow). I mean, think about what Win XP will eat up! Haha!

I have the Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra and I love it. If I were to rebuild my Athlon system the Soyo K7V Dragon plus would be the board that I would use. It supports the XP+ processor and has a raid controller. I have the Antec SX1040 and I like it but Antec has a new version of it the 1060 Plus (http://www.kdcomputers.com/eui/prime/profile/754/23/component.htm) and 1080 plus (http://www.kdcomputers.com/eui/prime/profile/749/23/component.htm) they have added features not found on the SX1030 or SX1040 like a front intake air filter front USB and firewire ports. The 1080 plus has a fan in the side panel.
