Here is my situation... I bought a PC about 3 years ago and it came complete with all the hardware already installed so there was no need for me to install any drivers etc.

Well for Christmas tomorrow I'll be getting the following:

New Motherboard
New CPU
New Video Card

I'm going to be doing a full re-install of Windows XP so I can start fresh and was wondering if when I try attaching the following pieces of hardware to the mobo, will they work just like that or will I need to install drivers etc for them:

CD/DVD Rom Drive
Floppy Drive
Hard Drive
Sound Card

I'm asking because I don't have any driver CDs for the hardware due to the fact it came already installed on the PC.

The XP default drivers should take care of what you listed. The only exception might be the sound card. When done with the installation of the OS, the XP will tell you if there was a problem with the sound card driver, or you can look under Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager for any device driver problem.

Hope this helps and Merry Christmas .. HomeSA

Also, you should be able to download the sound card drivers from the previous manufacturer's website, or the sound card manufacturer's website. The default drivers will usually get you up and running, but added features usually come with the full set of drivers/program...

I bought a PC about 3 years agoOne other thought would be to download or get ahold of a copy of Service Pack 2 for XP...

Also, if you're going to reload XP, it's often a good time to reaccess how you have your harddrive setup. If it is a larger drive and in the past you were not aware of partitions, now would be a good time to look into this feature...

As mentioned the only possible problem will be the sound card, and even that if you buy a new motherboard might have onboard sound anyway.
