i've seen your earlier posts where you have been trying to build an inexpensive yet powerful/reliable system.

Here's my recommendation; Motherboard=ECS K7S5A CPU=any AMD Athlon XP 1600+> DDR memory

This board is inexpensive, easy to setup, and runs around $50-60.

jjoel,

I went with iisbob's recommendation of the K7S5A for a recent build I did for my Father. Install went without a hitch! I was impressed with the classy rear panel with icons that you can use to replace the one that comes with the case.

I went with 256 MB of Crucial (http://www.crucial.com) DDR RAM...a little more expensive. Comes with free shipping. Warranty is outstanding, and Crucial comes highly recommended from many contributors to PC GUIDE Forums.

XP1600+ has a clock speed of 1400Mhz.

Newegg is probably as price

competetive as any out there. And good service.

Luck.

I read your earlier posts and I saw your concern for the Athlon overheating. If you search Newegg's site for CPU fans, you'll find a wide selection of those for SocketA procs. Many are approved up to an XP1800+, like mine, the GlobalWin WBK38. Of course, when they say "approved" this usually means this is the only fan in the machine besides the power supply fan and who is dumb enough to do that? I have two extra case fans for my system and it seems pretty cool.

Go with Crucial RAM, that stuff is the best and free shipping doesn't get any cheaper! I put Crucial in all the systems I build/service, even my mom's Celeron cheapo system, which cost about $400 and plays UT like a dream http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif.

I don't know if you plan to overclock, but, for a few dollars more you can get the 1700+(1467MHz), and it is more overclock friendly.
