So I just finished building my new computer, it's great turn it on and it runs. So I needed a monitor and went to get a 19" flat screen lcd monitor. I plug it in to my computer get a keyboard from my suitcase and plugged it in as well. I turned on the computer and the monitor both have power including the keyboard where the num lock light comes on.

Now for the problem.

My screen is saying press F2 for Bios Settings.
"Okay then I will do that."

I press F2 and nothing happens at all. It doesn't change it just stays still the computer is still running and after a while the screen goes black with little numbers at the bottom.

Please help me I really don't know what to do.

I put in my motherboard cd and still nothing happened.

:(

First off is this a PS2 keyboard or USB?

If it is usb then it may need to be enabled in the Bios.
But you need a ps2 keyboard to get into it. ( Catch 22 )

If you have another keyboard give that a try

It's a normal keyboard that I plug in the back of the motherboard yeah PS2 keyboard. I tried 2 different keyboards both PS2 and they both didn't work.

If this was not an Opened package
Then you may have a defective M/B

Before calling for an RMA I would do an out of case setup and test.
If it works out of the case then you may have a pressure problem.
IE: The M/B is setting in the case an creating pressure on the backplane
causing a short or broken connection

If it was/is an Opened product
Then you may be able to get it working with a usb keyboard
IF.. The previous person opened and installed it then set the bios to USB keyboard and disabled the ps2 port

I bought the motherboard brand new, but like I said power is going to the keyboard as the little num lock light comes on. I press num-lock and nothing happens.

The numbers lock not working is a good sign that the keyboard is Not communicating with the computer

If the back plane has pressure on it
Or the keyboard controller is doa
It can still get power.
and not work.

The keyboard connection needs to make all 6 connections
You could have a short. Putting power to the +,- leads and all the others as well

Here is a good quick way to check for motherboard alignment
Shut down everything. Unplug the power cords, press the power button ,
Now loosen the motherboard mounting screws and shift the board a little. 1/16th or less of an inch can mean a lot.
Tighten up at least one of the mounting screws ( ground) Plug it back in and see if it works
BWT. if it is a tower it is OK to boot/power it up while the case is on it's side. ( good idea with only one screw tight)
If it corrects the problems.
Shut down and go back and tighten up the remainder of the mounting screws

It's probably the motherboard since I have used multiple keyboards and none of them work.
