Power meter help

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and I just have a question about the power meter. Now I don't know much about laptops and when I checked the power meter, it said 56 minutes remaining and the power source is batteries. Could anyone tell me what I'm supposed to do?

Were you actually plugged in?

That message means that you are drawing power from the battery and not the wall outlet. Make sure everything is securely plugged in.

I actually didn't have it plugged into an outlet from the wall so it was running on battery the whole time. I didn't really realize that.
