I recently reformatted my comp and i decided i wanted to change my comcast modem to ethernet instead of usb, and after i plug an ethernet cable into the modem & comp it does not sense it, like it dosnt pick up any internet, also if i plug in an ethernet cable into the ethernet port, no link lights light up showing it is connected, so i bought a new ethernet card today ( Linksys LNE100TX ), installed it and the drivers, and it still does not sense any ethernet connection. Since i reformatted my computer should i run my windows xp cds like my resource cd or anything like that, any suggestions peopleeee?
THANKS.
Does it show anything in Device Manager under Network Adapters? If you card show up there it is most likely not a problem on the PC. If you are not getting a link light it sounds like this is the case. You should get a link light without drivers (and you should also get one on the modem or router you connect to).

try going to device manager and right clicking your computer at the top of the tree and scan for hardware changes

Can you ping 127.0.0.1?
Disable one network card and troubleshoot the remaining one. Test the cable to make sure it works on other machines.
