Ok so my network at work is a windows 2003 domain with XP pro and 2000 pro computers on it. I just received a donation of 2000 pro computers that I cant seem to get onto my domain.
Doing an IPCONFIG/all it the computername.mydomain.local is the computer name, it uses my network's dns and gateway, yet when I try to get it to leave "WORKGROUP" and join my domain an error message occurs that says "unkown interface".
I think I am over looking something simple but just cant put my finger on it. Please HELP.

Right click My network places, click Properties. the Local Area Connection is the name of the Network Cards. Disable the one you are not using, on the one with the cable plugged into it it should say Status enabled.
Right click it and click Properties.
Verify you have checks next to Client for Microsoft, File and Print sharing and network protocol TCP/IP
Locate Internet Protocol TCP/IP, select it and click Properties, Verify it is set to Obtain IP address automatically (assuming you use DHCP) for IP and DNS.
Click Advanced, click DNS and remove anything in the DNS Server addresses. Remove any "Append these..." DNS entries, Verify only "append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes" and "Register this connection's addresses in DNS" are checked.
Click the WINS tab and remove any addresses listed. Check "Use netBIOS setting from the DHCP server" or just "Enable netBIOS..." Click Ok and OK
From Start, Run type cmd and hit enter
The computer should be in a workgroup.
That's really wierd. I can't really see how an extra disconnected interface would interfere. Wouldn't really shock me though if it was, Windows still has its quirks.
I would though make sure that all of the IP settings are set to auto.
Is this a fresh OS install you did, or just using it however it was given?

The only thing i didn't try before the intial posting was switching the netbios selection. However I tried that and that did not change anything. There is only one LAN card and connection setup on the pc. All the IP settings are set to auto.
This was a donation to my agency. The OS was supposedly a fresh install from the previous IT department. I have 6 more of these machines installed in my agency and I got them to join the network fine when they came in. The odd thing is they gave us 6 more this time and I get the same error message on all of them.

From the problem machine can you ping any other machine in the domain via IP and name?

Sorry about that I thought I posted that I can access my server from the troubled machine. But yes i can ping other workstations and my server by name or IP.

Then I would check the sevices under computer management. Possibly some are set to manual or disabled and should not be. I would look at Net Logon and Workstation. You can compare the services running on a problem machine with the services running on working machine.

Nice job variable, I believe you hit the nail on the head with net logon. The only problem I am having now is it wont start no matter what I try. I even gave windsockxpfix to see if that would work, but it was a no go.

I take it workstation is running? When you right click on a service and properties you will see a Dependency tab. Any services required to be running for the service your looking at to start will be listed. You may also want to make sure the Log On As tab is showing the System account for any necessary service...
A quick google search came up with a lspfix link and a possible .dll problem

yes workstation is up and running. I tried both downloads from those links and neither worked. Here is the message when I try to start netlogon:
"Windows could not start the netlogon on local computer.....error code 5777."
It tells me to refer to the system event log which states:]
Netlogon got the following error while trying to get to the subnet to sitemap information from the DS: Not enough storage is available to process this command."
Any ideas?
