Free cda to mp3 converter
I just bought a Sandisk mp3 player and have some "cda" music files on my computer I want to upload to the player.
Looking for a converter.
CDA is the standard format that the files are in on a CD...Windows Media Player should be able to convert/rip them to at least a Windows format, if not mp3.
If not...
CDex (http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/index.html) a fairly simple, fairly plain vanilla OpenSource ripper...
AudioGrabber (http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/) another 'free' one, but not OpenSource

Greetings, MJC and PC correspondents,
I was hoping this thread might show a 'step by step' cd to mp3 file process for a not-particularly-bright correspondent (ah, that would be me ...).
I really don't know much about such things -- I mean, about all I do know is where the cd fits, into this notebook (hp pavilion zx5000 running on windows xp home), and I know (or at least have, possibly by accident more than desigh) uploaded a few of my cd songs to my Windows Media Player, and they still 'work', but is there something already existing in xp that will change the files I upload to the MP3 form? If so, would someone walk me through the process? (as in, first, click 'start'. second, click 'all programmes', third, click [needed programme] -- that sort of 'walk through' would be terrific ...)

skwerlbaitbev, when you rip a CD or song in windows media player you can have it rip to MP3.
At the top right of the media player click the little down pointing arrow > tools > options > "rip music" tab > in the drop down box you can choose which format to rip it to. You can also choose the quality and size of the file and where to put it on the same tab.

Can't directly edit the audio CD track, import the audio CD track to PC, then using Mp3 editing/ converting software, suggests FlexiMusic Wave Editor (http://www.fleximusic.com/waveditor/overview.htm). Using "Save As" command convert and save the audio CD track to Mp3 file format. Software is easy to use, downloadable and free to use as trail version.

audacity is the best. not only can you edit, but it can also serve as a converter between formats.

is a great guide... requires a little basic computer knowledge...
otherwise i suggest you just pop a cd in windows media player, and press the "rip music" button. you can setup where the files go, what quality, etc... in the options (as someone said earlier)
otherwise, you can goto the library, and i can guarentee there's an "mp3s for dummies" book out there somewhere...
