Hi all

I'm thinking of upgrading my PC for games by getting a new high-end video card. (I currently have a Radeon 9600)

The problem is that my current motherboard is not PCI-e compatible.

Is it possible to find a motherboard for an Athlon XP 2000 with PCI-e?
(Don't ask me what my memory type is, I don't remember.)

Is it possible for me to upgrade only the video card and motehrboard at this time, withoput upgrading the CPU and other things, or in otherwords- getting a whole new PC, in which case Ill just get an XBOX 360?

Or maybe with my current CPU I might as well buy a console even with a high-end video card?

thanks

PCIe came out over a year after the Socket A platform was discontinued from production. So no, there is no AthlonXP mobo that supports PCIe.

However, it is possible to upgrade your current vid card to a much more modern one that would play games better. The downside is that 2007 will be the year of Vista and D3D 10 games, which will basically require a Pentium D or Athlon64 X2 at the minimum. If you want to play the latest A-List games like CoD3, and if you don't have the money for a new PC, you'd be better off investing in a console.

Money is money. And while I remain a PC gamer, I know it's not for everyone. Keeping up with the technologies and spending the money on upgrades is a rough business. Consoles provide a cheaper way out. Not as cheap as it used to be, but still cheaper than a similarly performing PC.
