I just read an article that said that "series-mode" type surge protectors were superior to and longer lasting than "MOV" type. It seems that MOVs wear out as they age. But the prices for the series-mode are astronomical. Does anyone know anything about this stuff and do you have any recommendations?

There may well be something in that. MOVs would only "wear out" by actually operating to prevent spikes etc. Depends how good your line supply is as to how long they last. Of course, the only way you'd know that it was faulty is when your computer gets fried! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Best solution is a UPS, but they are even more expensive. Its a compromise between expense and efficiency. Is repairing/replacing your computer more expensive than a series surge suppressor or UPS? Only you can decide that for yourself. I'm going to be evenhanded and sit on the fence!(even if I do sometimes get spinters in the ***!)

Thanks David. I did some research and I was convinced. I just bought a Belkin UPS.
