Plz Help! Dll Error. Frustrating!

:( When i try and enter the "system" icon in control panel i get the error

An exception occurred while trying to run “C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL “C:\WINDOWS\system32.cpl”,System”

Also i cannot get onto the windows update site. The site freezes, sometimes I will get to the page and it will start downloading and registering new updating software but then i get an error also. If i click on the automatic updates icon in control panel i get the error message

I am running XP Pro SP2. Can anyone please help, i am getting rather frustrated.

You should post a new thread in the "Applications and Security" section of the PC Guide asking to have your software checked for infection. :)

I suggest you uninstall the SP2 by doing a system recovery in the maintenance section (at the time prior to PS2 being installed) and see if the trouble occurs again. If not then PS2 is a possible culprit. Otherwise save your personal data and do a complete installation of the OS for peace of mind. The time spent trying to find the prob may take longer than doing the OS.

Difficult to diagnose without more info on the system, as well as its history. But the first things I would suspect are the hard drive and/or file system. If both are fine, you may have to replace that DLL from your WinXP installation CD.
