Hi
I have a wireless modem which my work laptop uses to connect via vpn to the office and when not in vpn mode, it will connect to the net.

I have another laptop for which I have bought a belkin wireless pcmia (which is working fine and communicating wirelessly with the modem).

The problem is, on the second laptop when I try to connect to the web, I can't, there is no connection. I ran a diagnostics on the second laptop and discovered that the 2nd laptop sees a certain ISP as its "host" (this ISP was used by my friend last year and then disconnected). The problem is my ISP is a different one and I am wondering if that is where the problem lies? I did a registry check for the 1st ISP and found it in there, should I delete it?

Any ideas at all would be gratefully received!

Thanks

Does the old ISP have its software loaded in Add/Remove? You might want to begin there if it is and yank it...

 Hi
Unfortunately there is nothing like that in the Add/Remove programs list...

Hmmm...well, you could try a Search on your computer using the ISP name...

Or, check on the ISP's site and see if their download has a name...then search on the computer...

Yes I did that, found both ISPs in the registry, the 1st ISP has a lot more lines/values that the new (2nd) one - should I delete it do you think?
THanks:)

Export it as a .reg file first, then delete...

Just right click on the key for the first ISP and select Export from the menu. If you need to put it back for some reason, right click on the reg file and select Install.

I would add that, if you do not what you are deleting in your registry you can have odd and sometimes critical issues and you probably will not notice them till you reboot.

If you just want to connect to another ISP you can do that easily in your browser under Tools, Internet Options, Connections. Remove the old one.

Then go to Start, Settings and right click Network Connections and click Open. Remove the old ISP connection if listed.

MJC - I will try that and let you know how I get on. Thanks

Variable - the 1st ISP does not appear ANYWHERE on the pc except for in the Registry.

You do not need to edit the registry to change ISP connections. It is based on Browser settings and Network connections.

Hi all

It works!! I cannot explain why unfortunately...I had tried connecting the laptop to the modem with cable with no joy. After deleting reg key I tried again and it worked and then as soon as I unplugged the cable, the wireless worked. So, I am happy with all that but am not exactly sure if it was to do with the reg or what!!

Thanks for all your help as usual
M:)
