i bought an asus vintage pe1 barebone system
i bought a Intel Pentium 4 531 Prescott 3.0GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - OEM
and a WINTEC AMPO 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Desktop Memory - Retail
i put a 250 gb western digital hard drive in it as well as a cd/dvd-rw and a floppy drive and when i go to boot it up it turns on for about 5 or 10 seconds the everytime any idea
whats not compatable or whats stopping me from being able to do anyhting i have windows xp i wanted to put on it withc shouldn’t matter

The first thing you need to do with a fresh system is a barebones boot! You can't connect everything all at once or you don't know what's wrong. As in this case.

The only components that need to be installed to turn on a computer are: CPU (and HSF unit), mobo, one stick of RAM, vid card (or onboard video), PSU, monitor, and keyboard. That's it! That's all that should be connected the first time you build a system with all new components. If it works like this, you can start adding other components one at a time. If it doesn't work, it's much easier to diagnose.

Go back to a barebones boot and see what happens.

just a thought- was the cou installed on the board when you got it? if so did you remove the cover BEFORE installing of the heatsink compoud and heatsink

its ok but no it wasent i had to buy one i got a pentium 4 and put in it

So did you use some sort of thermal compound? Or the thermal pad that came with it? (it looks like a sticker, it sort of melts later and forms a thermal bond)

So it's a week later now, how'd the barebones boot go? Did you get a chance to play with it yet?

no not yet im gonna try it tomarrow or friday mopst likely friday ive been so busy at work i work and sleep lol but ill post something up as soon as i do something with it thanks alot for helping me

ok so i did what the first response said to do i did the barebone boot and it did the same thing
i was trying a few different things and i took the cpu out and it stayed running but no screen or nothing came upwith i think is normal so doe that mean that my cpu is bad or what any ideas one other thing is im not sure what a mobo is thanks
