I need help with my PC. The problem is that my PC sometimes hang on booting up. When i turn the power on, I hear a single beep, then the screen shows the line indicating BIOS loading. At this point the PC hangs, with the cursor flashing at the end of the bios loading line.

I pressed del to see if i can get to the BIOS setup screen but the keyboards dead. I can see the 'press del to enter bios' line.

I have tried booting from a floppy when this happened but the drive wouldnt even start up.

This doesnt happen all the time. Sometimes when I leave the PC alone for a day then turn it on the next day, it boots up successfully. It doesnt always work, though. If it doesnt boot the first time i turn the power on, it will not boot up regardless of how many time i press reset. When it does boot up and I press restart, it hangs again on boot up no matter how many time i press reset. I'd wait one day and, sometimes, it boots again successfully the next day.

All this started about 2 weeks ago after i changed the CMOS battery. I dont know if this has anything to do with my problem.

I hope somebody can help me. Thanks.

My system:
AMD Duron 1.2 GHz
Asus A7N266-VM motherboard
512 MB RAM (256x2)
Windows XP professional with SP2

I think it is most likely the cause of the problem.
Is the new CMOS battery of the correct type and in good working order, and is it fitted correctly?
Was the old battery working OK? If so refit it to see what happens.
