I have a Celeron 333Mhz cpu and an Abit LM6 motherboard in a home built pc that is used mainly as a hobby and gamer pc. I want to put an AMD 1.33Ghz Athlon and an ECS K7S5A motherboard into it. I know I need a new power supply so I will get a new case. Do I need to start over from scratch by reformatting and reinstalling everything or can I change and go.
Using Windows 98 OS.
Thanks for your help.

A Clean install may be a good idea,
your changing chipsets and cpu

You can just do a drive swap.
But you should run regedit and remove the ENUM key and allow windows to reinstall all the hardware and drivers into device manager

Hi Nook,

That answer all depends on who you ask, and how your luck is. I myself replaved a DFI MOBO with a FIC Motherboard, and had problems the first time I tried. All seemed to go well, untill Windows98SE attempted to make changes in the registry, then rebooted, then changed the regestry, rebooted, changed the regestry, rebooted......well you get the idea. I finally gave up and took the board back. The people there told me that I was suppose to reformat my hard drive, but I am hardheaded and thought otherwise. So I bought the same motherboard from another place (FIC MOBO), and tried it again and it booted up the first time!!! Since then, I have been told that you are better off reformatting when you replace your motherboard. If you have all the install disks, then that is not too big of a hassle. But if you have lost or misplaced them, then it could be a hassle. That is just my experence, maybe some others will have a more definite answer for you. Good luck!
