I have an tripplite omnismart 1400 (5 batteries, 6v 12ah). I am trying to replace the batteries. I neglected writing down how they were installed prior to removal (BIG mistake!). Now I am trying to re-install them but it does not look right. It currently look like:
Black - to ups electronics
red - red
black - black
red - black
red - black
red - to ups electronics.

I do not think this is correct even though the wires all fit.

Any help would really be appreciated - thanks..............

well you're doing a very dangerous thing by mixing and matching wires of batteries like that... it's nothing to take lightly, especially if you aren't sure what you're doing. All UPS are different, some are just a straight DC voltage pack, some are two packs in a +/- DC voltage, it really depends. The best thing to do is call Tripplite and talk to a support department. They could get you back up and running in less time than it takes to post here.

In the mean time, remove all the wires before you burn your house down, or have a battery explode in your face!

I second that motion.

The reason I posted is because of the way I ended up and I knew it was wrong. I have contacted tripplite and they told me that I had to hire a journeyman electrician (really!). From this I gotta assume that they have NO support for users and/or are simply unwilling to release the information. This is, incidentally, the first thing that I did. It seemed really easy. All they had to do is tell me if I am increasing voltage (+ to + and - to -) or increasing amps (+ to -, etc) - series or parallel. Its gotta be one or the other as I doubt, very much, that they would mix it up (inconsistently wire the terminals). I am, incidentally, not a real big fan of Tripplite and would suggest that NOBODY do business with them!
