I am in the process of upgrading my motherboard and need to know whether or not the power supply is compatible and has wnough juice to run the system.

At he moment i am running:

Pentium 4 670 3.8ghz
BFG GeForce 7600 GT 256MB
250GB PATA Seagate H/D
DVD burner
Antec Neo480 ATX 2.0 p/s

The motherboard I am looking at is the Asus P5B-E Plus.

Right this is were i get confused. In the spec on the Asus website it says that the motherboard has a 24-pin ATX connector and the 2 x 4-pin EATX 12v power connectors?? WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN??

The Antec that i have at the moment has the 24-pin connector but only has one of the other 4-pin connectors. Am i going to have to buy a new p/s that has the two 4-pin connectors??

I know this is probably a bit of a newbie question but any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance

An hour and a half?

Most of the hardware gurus have 'day jobs' and are on in the evenings, so give it a bit of time.

But, in the meantime...how about some info on your current power supply. There may be other reasons you'd want to upgrade besides the need for more EATX connections (which, probably would mean an upgrade...)

Sorry about that.

Right, the main reason for the upgrade is that my current m/b does not support the new Core2Duo chips. As i cannot afford to buy everything at once i am doing it piece by piece.

My PSU is an Antec NeoPower 480W ATX12v v2.0

The M/B i am looking at is the Asus P5b-E Plus.

The m/b has the 24-pin connection (The Antec will fit) plus 2 x 4-pin connectors. At he moment i have only got the one with my PSU. However there is a cap over one of the two 4-pin connectors, does this mean that it doesn't have to be used???

Would it work only plugging one in??
What's the point in covering it if you have to use it??

Sorry if i didn't make myself more clear.

Cheers again!
