i used to be able to install froma CD my Win XP on my old PATA hard drive without a problem. Recently i upgraded to a SATA and automatically transferred PATA data to SATA. Now it's time to clean my HD and i want to format and reinstall OS but i have only the SATA and when Win load says it can`t find any hard drive on the EIDE channel whcih is true but isn`t supposed to find a hard drive on the SATA channel? am i stuck???
It sounds like you added an SATA controller card or using the on board Sata
When you start the XP install it should ask if you have or want to use a scsi device or add drivers for scsi
At that point you should point the install to the drivers for your Sata controller
Also if you are using the sata on the mother board
make sure you have it set in the bios as enabled, bootable, and boot first

Mobos vary widely but it is important to carefully scrutinise the BIOS setup and ensure you attempt to configue it as an "IDE-emulated" device. Some (mostly older) BIOS will only allow SATAs as part of a RAID or SCSI interface and they would require the drivers to be included using the F6 option at the start of the installation.

it worked, i had to install the RAID configuration upon loading windows even if i have one single drive. i had a floppy that came with the mobo for this
thank you all
