Has anyone tried the PlexWriter/CD-RW 40x 12x 40A couldn't pass up the price so i bought one.Think they were insulted at Best Buy when i didn't want to purchase there insurance policy, can't see paying them for something Plextor will have to carry for 3 years for free.

I have one and like it. It's very fast compared to the 8X4X32 Iomega in my other system. I wouldn't have bought Best Buy's insurance either.

The "kids" who work at Best Buy IMO don't know squat about the products they sell and are squeezed by their managers to pressure sell the extended warranties. Most of the time the extended warranty is a fourth of the price of the product itself which usually already has a decent warranty. And yeah Plextor burners are excellent.

I have an 'older' Plexwriter 16x10x40A that I got retail, so I got a shiny, colorful box with mine. Anyway, the box says it's not XP compatible only because of the bundled Plextor Manager software (which has some really outdated stuff and I never installed it) which was still in version 2000 for mine. However, Plextor's site should have the XP compatible update if you want it, but other automatic CD-R/RW back-up software and burning software (Nero anyone?) is generally better, so dl'ing the latest PlexManager XP (or whatever it's called) isn't really necessary.

If you find any firmware upgrades over there let me know, OK? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

The Plextor Manager SW is not XP compatible but is not needed the drive works fine without it. I haven't found a use for it in ME either except to load at startup and hog resources. The Easy CD Creator 5 is compatible with XP.
Plextor does have a firmware update for the Plexwriter 40X12X40A. (http://www.plextor.com/english/support/downloads/firm_4012.html)

I saw today my local Wal-Mart has a TDK 40X12X48 Velo CD-RW drive for $148.00. When I first saw it I did a triple take.
