pc worked but now doesnt

My daughters pc worked fine then the next day it didnt.
Have followed suggestions on here to no avail.
problem is a follows.
When swithched on power and cd light come on but nothing else.No beep no keyboard light up nothing but can hear fan and h/d working.Have removed all and tried in another pc and all worked fine.She only ises p/c for internet and was wondering has she got a virus.There was no power surge etc so i ruled this out.
Any help appreciated.

Since you're not worried about getting your hands dirty shuffling the computer components around, I would suggest that you barebones the computer.

You want only the motherboard, RAM, video card (if on board, card is not needed), and keyboard...

See if you get the single beep indicating that you've made it through POST...

If you have a floppy drive, I would add that and use a boot disk, or the harddrive diagnostics work also since they have the system files on them that will get you to an A: or to the diagnostics...

Tried bare bones start but still nothing but will try "A" drive boot disk
and see what happens and if that doesnt work do i need too get my credit card out yet again.

What are the computer's specs?

How old is the computer? If you're not getting a single beep indicating a successful POST, then we need to concentrate on things before a floppy bootdisk...

Is the CPU fan spinning up? When you were swapping components, did you try the Power Supply in another rig?
