Well, I'm back at it again... fixing the home network when nothing broke it (stupid windows). Everything is working wonderfully, then...
I tried to print something yesterday on the computer named "DOWN" and was told that I couldn't connect to the printer that is plugged into Computer "UP" and shared through simple XP to XP file and printer sharing.
1. I can ping both ways
2. I can radmin into both computers via IP
3. They are both on workgroup "HOME" with different names ("UP" and DOWN")
4. They both have internet access
5. NetGuest account is enabled on both
6. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa
restrictannonymous is set to 0 on both
7. YES!!!! simple file sharing is turned on/installed (I told you this was working earlier!)
8. I have shares on both computers
9. I cannot manually add //HOME/xxxxx to my HOME workgroup on either computer
Here's where the problem comes in. On "DOWN" in My Network Places>Entire Network>Microsoft Windows Network>HOME I see no computer, but on the upstairs computer I see "UP" (like I should)
When I change "DOWN"'s workgroup back to MSHOME it changes it to
My Network Places>Entire Net...>...>MSHOME, but my computer never shows up there. Change it back to HOME so it should join the upstairs computer but it won't join HOME itself.
What would let the computer change it's workgroup but not add itself to it's own workgroup?
I've set up hundreds of XP home networks for myself, friends, family and $ and (I thought) I had already come across and fixed every problem imaginable... I guess not, huh MS?
Any Ideas?
Any help?

If you are reading about someone's problem and have a solution, you would use the button on the upper or lower left side that says New Post (just as you did to post this).
When you are seeking an answer to your problem, you would click on the Forum Heading (in this case Local Area Networking). When you do so, the button you used to do a New Post will now say New Thread...

Also, as you can see, I broke your 2 Posts off from the other person's Thread and began your own Thread...
