program to play videos

I'm looking for a good program to play videos that Windows Media and Quicktime won't.

My network admin friend had talked about a program he has that can play all types of videos that might not work with the normal programs but I don't remember which he has, i'm sure there's many though.

Anyone here know of any good free programs?

Thanks guys....realplayer's good but there's some videos that just don't work on it so I was looking for something else.

Got a few video programs on my pc anyways and they're always trying to regain the file types.
