OK, I have an asrock 775 dual-vsta board. I upgraded the bios to resolve a problem, and suddenly, the quiet fan option isn't working. The option to enable is there, all right, but enabling and setting a target temperature doesn't have any impact. My fan just keeps blowing at 3500 rpm, no matter whether the system is sleeping or going all out.

I've repeatedly reset the settings and rebooted, but to no avail. It WAS working before the bios upgrade.

Speed Fan doesn't work, either, although interestingly it seems that the fan speed percentage seems to report lower than it used to.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Full system specs are needed.

What was the previous BIOS version? What did you upgrade to? What was the problem you were trying to fix?
Other than the BIOS, no other hardware changes?

Asrock 775 dual-vsta motherboard
e6300 c2d processor
2 gb pc2 5300 667 ram
400gb maxtor sata hd
diamond ati radeon x1600 pro agp video card
benq dvd-rom
old sb live sound card pulled from my old dell

The board came with bios 2.1 equipped. I upgraded to the latest version, 2.4.

The problem I was trying to correct was a missing system interrupt controller driver.

This is a new build. All of the hardware was installed before this problem appeared.

It appears the fan speed may be slowing some on windows boot, but it's barely perceptable. I did find that if I disable the quiet fan feature in the bios, I can use fan speed to slow the fan, but I'd just as soon not have to load yet another program. In any event, the change is puzzling and I'm almost as interested in just trying to figure out what the problem is.
