Ok, my PC has a 250w PSU which is way too low for what I need and is causing my system to crash frequently.

I was looking to upgrade it to gigantic proportions and found this (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=34825) on ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com).

Could someone please tell me if it is worth getting. Its cheap (about $35 US) but I don't want to spend my hard earned and find out a week later this whole thing explodes.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hmm You've been around here long enough to know that a cheap PWRS can cause all sorts of problems.I personally have never heard of this but for the price it may be worth a try? But think about this 550/w at the price of $35.00 I would seriously think about this purchase.I have seen quality PSU's say a 400/w a little more expensive but a quality name.I would be a little jittery on this one?

Ok, thanks for the advice, I've only ever bought one PSU up until now and I realised when I went to buy a new one that I know nothing about them. But as I can see from your post they are the same as any other component.

And don't worry I NEVER buy the cheapest component, just wondering if PSU's can be as unreliable as other components.

I'll see if i can find a 400w PSU for around $70, that should sort my problem out and prevent future ones http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks again.

Hmmm, well im guessing mainly from price alone Antec is good.

Ok a little more advice needed, if I have a pIII 550 with a dvd rom, a cdrw, 2HDD, a soundblaster live!, a geforce 2 64mb, a dv editing card and a network card should i go for the $67 350w antec or the $94 400w antec?

Im tempted to go for the 350 simply because of the price, but do u reckon it will be able to cope with everything?

Sure I think that would be fine. what I use is a Antec PP-412X 400W basically at +5 and +3.3v combined output:245w max
and at +5v & +3.3v and +12v Combined output:380w max these are the cobinations that are the final in short you'll be fine with the 350 as long as your not running twenty fans 15 Hdd's and a margaretta mixer at the same time http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Personally I would rather have name brand power supplies or at least a product that I know someone else has used and can give it a good recomendation.

I highly recommend the Antec 400w smart power supply ( it's what i'm using ), it's around $100-but well worth it.

Trust me, you don't want to hear the POW! of an exploding capaciter! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

This happened to me with a " bargain " PS ( 300w enermax actually ); cost our cat 1 life and nearly put me in the grave!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

I also use the Antec PP-412X 400W PSU. It seems to work very good running 2 HDDs 2 CD drives and 8 fans.
