my friend is buying a new PC ... but is confused over whether to buy AMD XP or Pentium 4.
... our local assembler said dat AMD processors emit too much heat(also the climate here is hot) and if u dont have an A.C. ... then it might ... might .. cause a problem (like u will have to shtdwn if it gives beeps indicating dat the processor has become excessively hot)
Performance wise, as all of us know, AMD is better than P4.
so wat is recommended AMD or Pentium4 ?

I run a 1.7GHz P4 and never have any heat issues. One of my other machines with a 1.4GHz TBird is a constant struggle to keep cool. The Athlon XP is supposed to run cooler, but I'm not sure by how much.
I would recommend the P4. I'm basing that advice on your climate and no A.C. The P4 has much better thermal protection than the earlier AMDs and will adjust itself if it gets too hot. In other words, if it does start running hot, it will tone itself down in speed until proper temps are once again reached.
Make sure your friend has adequate case cooling no matter which processor he/she ends up getting.

Hi
As you may know the clock rate of AMD cpu is lower than P4 equivalent for example XP 1700 works at about 1470 MHZ, AMD cpu needs good cooling and if you don't mention on it you will burn the cpu, it means you must buy one of the approved heatsink and fan by AMD and also a big case with enough space for ventilation and a 80x80 mm fan installed in the backside of case to vent the hot air inside the case out, and be sure the mobo has temp. sensor to indicate the cpu temp. and shutdown facillity in bios to ensure shuting down the pc in case of over heat.
Ok AMD is cheaper than P4 boxed that included the approved intel heatsink and fan, and has internal cpu protection for overheating, if money is important in your decision and like to takecare of all mentioned things buy AMD, and if isn't important to pay more and don't like to think alot for cooling and protection against over heating buy P4.
And better to know that all this experience gained after burning an AMD xp 1700. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

thx guys.
this is just to inform u dat ultimately my friend bought AMD xp 1.8. It is a box pack cpu with some volcano 5 fan which is recommended by the company.... but still the comp vendor said u will have to shtdwn your pc for 10-15 min after using it continously for 4 hours ... just as a precautionary measure.
Also, he said that technical ppl go for AMD processors rather than Intel .... i wonder why ???? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

You may need to do some extra cooling becouse I run Athlon and do not shut this off And have no problem never heard of shutting it off every four hrs That is non-sence I'd find a better vender http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif Apparently he sells used crap

Technical people go for AMD because it will outperform Intel. Proving that Mhz isn't everything. It's the work accomplished that counts.
The Volcano 5 may be a little light for the environment you folks are in. The ThermalTake AX7 is what you need if possible. Probably the best air-cooled unit on the market presently.
Ambient temperature is the key to any cooling system. So case cooling etc becomes a factor. If necessary remove a side panel and allow a fan to throw a breeze at it during the heat of the day.
