I am not to sure about paint shop pro 7 because i just downloaded the trial version so i don't know which one is good.
Thanx for your time.

Paint Shop Pro is probably the most popular, I haven't used it so I can't recommend it from experience, but it is very well known and is used by many professionals. I use iPhoto Plus, which came with my scanner and have no complaints, except that it doesn't seem to have as many options for effects as some others.
Just got a copy of Ulead's Photo Impact, haven't used it much but it seems to be pretty good so far. My focus is more on picture editing than drawing, iPhoto and Photo Impact both seem to be adequate for home use. For professional work Paint Shop might be a better choice.

serif photoplus 5 is a free fully working editor (except for tiff support which will cost one dollar) that has a good selection of effects and a good quality result. You could use it for editing or an evaluation of photoplus 6 or 7 (or whatever ther're on to by now)

Thanks for that, lib319. Looks interesting.
I'll say this: what little I've heard about Macromedia's Fireworks program hasn't been positive. That might be one to avoid. Unless you want Dreamweaver, which I've heard good things about. If you buy Dreamweaver, you get Fireworks.
