Printer prints faint text

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this:

When I print documents the printer prints the document but also prints parts of the document faintly on top of the document. It prints these faint parts in a column about an inch wide right down the middle of the page.
The printer is a HP LaserJet 4 Plus

Any help is much appreciated.

I would uninstall the printer drivers in Safe mode and reinstall the whole shootin match per the manufacturer's instructions. Or possibly use new, updated drivers downloaded from the manufacturer's site AFTER uninstalling the printer and old ghost drivers.

My bet is a bad laser cartridge is at work here, a physical print engine issue, not a driver issue.
Do try removing the cartidge, shaking it well and putting it back into the printer to see if that helps.
