Hello,
I recently purchased a WesterDigital SATA 160GB hard drive. My other hard drive on the computer is a IDE hard drive, so I decided to buy an external hard drive connector for the SATA and connect it through USB.

So I bought the external case (Combo USB2.0 to SATA & IDE hard disk) and I connected the SATA hard drive to it, and connected it to the USB2.0 port.

Then I installed the drives that came with the external case, and it doesn't seem to work. I installed whatever I could from the CD.. have restarted many times, plugged/unplugged it to the USB -- but it just doesn't work.

The hard drive works fine, when I turn it on from the external drive, I could hear it working, it just doesn't get recognized by the computer.

Anybody got some advise on what I should do?

P.S. I tried all three USB2.0 ports I have.

Edit:
Ok so now when I plug it to the USB, it gets recognized, Safely Remove Hardware shows up by the start-up tray.
When I open Safely Remove Hardware box, the hard drive is there -- its recognized.
But when I go to MyComputer, its not there... :(

I am assuming there is a problem with the driver?

Thanks.

Any brand new disk must be initialized before use. Only when it has a partition will it be visible in My Computer.
Use Disk Management. http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_management.htm

Owwww.... ha :) I thought you do that after the hard disk shows up on 'MyComputer.'

Thanks for your help Hagar :) .
