I have a Toshiba Satellite lap top that periodically just shuts itself down without any warning. It appears to be an overheating situation. The bottom side of the machine gets very hot. The fans are running. I have tried blocking up the machine and placing an external fan near it and this seems to help. However, it still shuts down periodically. Normally when it does this a few times in a row, I can unplug the power supply and run on battery and it usually does not shut down on battery. I say usually today after it shut down three times I unplugged the power supply and it still shut down while on battery.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with a Toshiba Satellite?

Any suggestions?

Posting the Toshiba model would help us determine what is normal but all modern notebook PCs including Toshibas have the possible collection of dust in the cooling airflow path. You have to clean the dust out.
