I guess I'll start the ball rolling by showing you this thread on this site. Browse around awhile, you'll find plenty of advice, depends what you want to do with your new pc.

Consider NOT buying one of (click on the word)these (http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000527.html)

First, and I don't mean to sound simple, but you need to know what your budget is. After that, what do you want to do with the computer? Do you want to buy from a company like Dell or Gateway or something like that? There are many good companies like that. Or, do want to build it yourself or buy from a local company. I like the local company route because if you have a problem, just drive over, leave it for a couple of days, and you're back in business. All that said...there ate two main CPU companies, AMD and Intel. Both are good, they keep trying to beat each other with speed etc. AMD is a little less expensive. They run a little hotter so make sure you get a good fan. The hard drive is important depending on what you're goig to do. Buy the biggest you can reasonably afford. The graphics card is very important and depending on what you want to do, can make a BIG difference. Then there are the other things, like CD or DVD or CDR. Get about 256mb of ram to start; you can add more later. And just reading posts in this forum is really good too. You can pickup a lot of valuable info. Also, go buy a PC World magazine and/or Computer Shopper. There are a few things to think about. Good luck.
