You don't want an optical mouse? They're more precise than any "ball" mouse, and never need cleaning. The best mouse ever made, IMFO, is the Microsoft Intellimouse, especially if you do a lot of web surfing or gaming. Trust me, the extra features are sweet. You'll be glad you got an optical mouse. I am. I could never go back.

A good mouse... The best way I know of finding a mouse that suits YOU is to try out as many as you can find. Which one fits your hand? feels "right"? has the features you want? I like the M$ intellimouse, but I know that not everyone likes the shape. Next time I shall try the optical type - cleaning the thing gets to be a nuisance.

I have a logitech track ball mouse that I've had for over three years. It has been no trouble at all. Cleaning is very easy and doesn't seem to need it very often. I could never go back to a mouse you have to move all over the place. LG http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
I have to agree with Lady Grey the Logitech track ball ( 4 Button) I have is easy to maintain. has lot of extra features and doesn’t require any more desktop space than a small mouse pad does.
Pay a visit to a store like best buy , compusa or the like that has a large number of pointers on display. Find one that fits your grip or feels right for you.
If you do a Lot of Precision Graphics work.
I’d all so have to add one of the Tablets to the list of items to look at.
If Price is a major consideration then don’t waste your time looking at tablets

I use a MS Intelimouse Optical and a MS Intelimouse Explorer both have 5 buttons + wheel both are optical. I don't think you will find a mouse with more than 3 buttons or 2 buttons + wheel that isn't optical.

I am in search of a really good mouse.
Perhaps some limburger would do the trick.
Seriously, though, There are 3 Logitech optical mice in my house, 1 cordless and 2 with cords. They have been flawless. Track balls are gone forever. Unfortunately, soon all those jokes about mouse balls will hold no signicance.

Not so Nooyawkah-not only are track balls alive and well, but the newer Optical ones are quite handy for fragging strangers on alien wolrds. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
i have several Logitech optical mice, cordless & cords, and a couple of optical trackballs, still have some of my old "ball" mice too.
IMHO optical technology for input devices is, next to USB, the best thing that has happened to the PC enviroment.
I love cordless mice because i used to get banged on the back of the head whenever i threw one of those old corded mice while in a fit of ire( it would bungee on me ). http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

There is no such thing as a stupid question; just an improper one.-my own belief
Unless I stick the tail-less mouse on a neck chain I would never find it again....so I am kind stuck with tailed mice....
I am also kind of partial to Logitech critters...had several M$ mice but I just like the feel of the Logitechs better, and by the way, that is basically your main options M$ and Logitech, many of the branded mice (like from Compaq et al) are rebadged Logis and many of the cheaper offerings are just that CHEAP.

Logitech.
Trackball, mouse or optical...every one I've ever seen has been excellent. My current one is a Compaq model at least 4 years old, still works perfect (nothing Compaq about it but the logo). I've abused it for over 2 years and only cleaned it twice, I think...I'll never even think about looking for another brand...
