The recent issue of PC World talks about how to quiet your PC (and mine is sure noisy). Here are some of the products they recommend. And do you know anything about them?
**PC Power and Cooling Ultra-Quiet Silencer 235 Watt power supply. (The same company sells PSUs up to 400 Watts. How do I know how much power I need? I have an XP 1800+, 40GB 7200RPM hdd, 2 CD drives512 DDR Ram, ABIT KR7A mobo, GeForce 3 Ti200 vidcard, I'm NOT a gamer).
**PC Power Sand Cooling Silencer Auxillary Cooling Fan.
**A passive heatsink (no fan).
**Molex's Silent Drive (plastic case to cover drive). The magazine talks about it working with a 7200RPM hdd, while the company"s website says up **Dynamat Extreme Computer Kit (for vibration dampening)
**Anti-vibration mat.
Any experience with these? Thanks 4 help.

You can also put some dampening material on the walls of the computer to quiet it down, there are many different materials for sound proofing.I my self with seven fans running have a jet ready for take off. I went to the local Lowes and purchased a roll of Cork and attatched it to the interior walls, now she is very quiet.A lot of the noise you get is from metal touching metal and loose fitting frames (cheap cases)any time you can put padding in certain places it is a good Idea.I also have stripped them down and sprayed the frames with Rhino liner great material.

Yoda, I learned about cheap cases the hard way. My next PC projecy for the wife included an Antec case and it was mich better. However, I'm stuck with this cheap one because I've done some modding and the entire inside is visible through a plexi window. I'd need sound killing material thet wasn't bad to look at? Any ideas?
Have you heard of Dynamat? http://store.yahoo.com/directron/40401.html
or Akasa? http://www.coolerguys.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=001&Product_Code=AC-AKPAX1
