View Full Version : Slow connection...on one station only

Got a wireless network at home, and it's all fine and dandy, except on one laptop (sod's law...mine!) upon which recently it has become terribly slow. This started a few weeks ago when the connection was having some slow time, but as soon as this was resolved, all the other wireless connections picked up to full speed again.

By slow I mean that websites etc will load, but just they'll take a lot longer than I'd expect....all sites resolving ok though. Two laptops together and mine will take up to 30 seconds longer. However, ADSL speed tests show it to be up to speed...when they actually load!

Now on my laptop, it's just slow! Tried FF and IE, but the same on both. If I wire the laptop into the router directly, all is fine and it's up to speed.

If I sit two laptops right next to each other (one room away from router..) and ping a website, the average ping time on my laptop is virtually always higher than on a "good" laptop. Ping times to the router are always 1ms on the "good" laptop, but average a lot higher, normally around 10ms - but always 0% actual packet loss.

Anyone any idea what is wrong?! Should add that on other wireless networks it's fine.

Also tried removing the connection entirely from my laptop, no improvement. Also tried resetting the router, but again, no improvement.

Driving me bloody mad!

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Ed Ludlow

Sounds to me like some of your connection settings have changed. Is IP automatic? If not, are IP and DNS acurate?

:D Heeheeheeee, you said "Fully Packed", lol
