Paper or Plastic??? What do I do with the following scenario??
Environment: Compaq Presario 5000 series model 5WV280, 900MHZ, 128MB Ram, AMD Atholon processor currently operating Windows ME 4.90.300. Small office peer to peer, Cat5, ethernet LAN thru a 10/100 hub - no dedicated server. Other LAN computers are new HP's. I would like to upgrade the Compaq to Windows XP professional and Office XP Professional. The Compaq user will have many large spreadsheets, but not complex ie: (no links, lookups, functions, etc.)
Question: Can I do the desired software upgrade by simply increasing the ram...(local supply company can sell me 256mb for $65.00)... or do I need to consider upgrading the whole system or buying another computer. Any ideas, input, or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Go with the more RAM...even consider getting 2 sticks and bumping it up to 512MB (more if you have 3 slots), XP can handle as much RAM as you care to throw at it. The rest oof the machine should handle XP quite well, and XP should have drivers for just about all the devices on it.
