OS: Windows ME

I had to reformat the hard drive in an old Dell belonging to a friend and re-install Windows ME. It has an internal Zip 100 IDE drive set as the slave on the IDE cable (primary) to the hard drive. I downloaded and installed all necessary software from the Iomega website. Now, when I boot the machine the BIOS screen identifies an Iomega Zip 100 drive along with the hard drive and CD-ROM. But then when I'm in Windows it calls it a Removable Disk (D:) as if it were a flash drive. Under Hard disk controllers in Device Mgr. I have:

Intel 82371SB PCI Bus Master IDE controller
Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)

No exclamation point there or elsewhere to indicate a confict or problem. I've put it on the secondary IDE cable and get the same result. Also set the jumpers to both Slave and CS with the same result. The Zip drive was working before reformat/reinstall. I know the Zip drives are obsolete but this guy has lots of data on Zip disks and needs that Zip drive functional. Any ideas? I've already uninstalled and re-installed the Iomega software to no avail.

Thanks,
Relztrah

A Zip drive IS a removable drive/disk

Without it being list that way you would NOT be able to swap disks in the drive

After booting up have you Mounted a disk yet?
Remember to protect the disk.
ONLY remove it using the Iomega Eject

Also it is a good idea to make sure NO disk is in the drive when booting

Yes, but My Computer doesn't show the normal blue Zip drive icon that will be there when the Zip drive is properly recognized. And after installing the Iomega software the message says No Zip Drives installed. And when I double click on the D: Removable Disk icon in My Computer, it's unavailable. So there's something wrong here.

I had one of those a few years ago.
It also quit showing the Blue icon when I installed the drive and or drives and or Iomega software in the wrong order

I'm sorry I don't recall the exact order it needs to be done in.
But their web site should have it

Like a few other devices
You need to do it correctly.
In a few cases you need to stop the new hardware search and run the software install.
Stopping windoz from setting it up wrong

Sorry I can't be of more help.
