Hi I have a problem with a Sony DVD-RW drive. It is reading media far too slow. Installing some software titles is taking more than an hour and I am unable to play dvd movies as the frame rate is too jerky. I have replaced the IDE cable with no effect and have tested the drive on another system and the drive works fine.

I have been told that I might need to enable DMA mode but when I checked, it is set to "DMA mode when available" and checking on the bios the primary channel is set to auto. Checking in the device manager I have 3 primary channels and 3 secondary channels all set to DMA when available. Should these be duplicated? I have re-installed the drivers but it still installs 3 channels for both primary and secondary channels, Is this a problem?
My Hard drive is connected via SATA 2, Motherboard is an MSI P695 and I am running on XP Pro.

Anybody got any ideas? Any help would be appriciated

Does it burn CD's or DVD's slowly too?

Haven't tried it yet to be honest.

Just tried burning an Audio CD and it is a lot slower than I would expect it to be.
