I'm upgrading once again, and thinking about buying an enermax 431W quiet power supply. its gonna cost me probably $85 after shipping, thanks to pricewatch, but does anyone know of any other quiet power supplies that might cost less, but it should be 400w or more with my system. oh, and are the sunon case fans relatively quiet? i'm getting a z-40 storm case from xoxide and it has seven of those fans on it, just worries me a little about the noise.

The Enermax 431W is famous for being very weak
on the +5V leg. Which is the CPU side of things.

My choice is the Leadman 500W for $50. Very strong
on the +3.3V and +5V. Here is a link:

As for the new case and it's many fans, wire them
up to a Fanbus (rheostat) if necessary. This will allow
the voltage to them to be adjustable so that the RPM can
be reduced, lowering the noise factor.

Luck.

Thanks for the link RD, sounds like a "beast!" And the price isn't bad either! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I made the mistake of buying an Enermax 350W about a year ago. It's
totally weak. Resigned it to my "plain-vanilla" box. The pots on
a 431W can be made adjustable in order to crank up the +5V leg but that
also boosts the 12V side at the same time. But then a person shouldn't
have to modify a new $85 dollar PSU.

Don't look for a warranty card of some nature when you pull a new
Enermax out of the box. As you won't find one.

These Leadman units (I have three) with a 50A +5V leg are especially
compatable with the AMD XP processor. Even with the VCore set to the max
for the processor, the +5V side doesn't get weak.

Now that I've said all that.... the next one I purchase will
probably be a bad one. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

Luck.

I also don't recommmend enermax as i had one blow a capacitor on me. I got an Antec smart power/whisper after that ( 400w ), and couldn't be happier with it's performance.
