Came across THIS LINK (http://www.webattack.com/Freeware/comm/a-fwemclients.shtml) and the Program that interested me was FoxMail 4.1 (a huge improvement on earlier and buggy versions) and which I am trying out for a friend. He wants to be able to bring a copy of such a program on a CD with him that he can install/uninstall on PCs when he is away from home; and also having the capability of leaving his mail on the server for when he gets home again.

He used to use Hotmail for this purpose but since they are probably going to start charging for POP retrieval he had asked me to keep an eye out for other options.

It's the first non-M$ free client that I have come across from which you can access both Hotmail and POPmail. Each (password protectable) User can add multiple POP accounts all of which are sent through that user's default SMTP. There is also a Remote Mailbox Manager which works for both the Hotmail and POP accounts.

I remember a previous discussion here before, but the problem then was in getting a combined Hotmail/POPmail client. So thought others might like to try it (or the other clients) out and also know of how to get their hands on a client with remote management for when, say, a message gets stuck on a mail server.

So far I am trying out PegasusMail (http://www.pmail.com/), YAMC (http://www.borg-kindberg.ac.at/yamc/), Popcorn (http://www.ultrafunk.com/) (very portable but no webmail), and Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org) (browser and email client).

Popcorn looks like it might be better for an on-the-road job and for using on other peoples pcs. Fits on floppy easily. Must give it a try; but I see they have stopped all further development.

Pegasus was always crashing on me - but maybe it has improved. Kempston's worked well for me as a remote manager but no webmail.

Be interested to know if peeps have any comments about mail clients they have been super-happy or unhappy about.

Pegasus has been pretty stable so far...I like how complete the headers are when you view the headers (gives IP addresses along with the names, makes it real easy to see forged headers....).

And I got Popcorn for exactly that reason, use on the road, will be going to my mothers for a family reunion soon....don't want to be without my email for that week.

YAMC, I got because I liked the name, Yet Another Mail Client....

Yeah, I have given up on OE, but I keep installed because of the need for troubleshooting...

Plus I have been running MailWasher for several weeks now, getting very few repeat spams, the bounce feature is really nice.

I use Eudora and have found it to be a very good program. Never has crashed due to its own code, only time in fact it crashed was when my MOBO was going south. Easy to setup and use, I would highly recommend it.
