Hi,

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A45-S150 notebook and it has a built in Wi-Fi 802.11g with Atheros AR5001X+ wireless network adapter.
I always used to get Excellent signal strength and the internet speed was good..I was out of the country for a month and after coming back now the signal strenght is always Low...My friends get Excellent signal strength...One of them has same toshiba notebook with the in-built Wi-Fi and the other has a network card...

If i use the network card..signal strength is Excellent...

I've tried updating the Atheros AR5001X+ wireless network adapter also..

Any suggestions are appreciated..

Thanks
Sachin

Hello sachin and welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif
I’m assuming that being “Out of the country” means you had your laptop with you and used your connection where you were? If this is correct, my suggestions will make sense. If not, let us know and we will go from there.
If settings were changed to use the wireless in another area, you will need to change those settings back to your area. Check your DNS settings and assigned IP.
Have you checked with Toshiba or Atheros tech support?

Hi Bassman,

Thank You...Thank you for the reply..
I was out of the country but i did not take my notebook with me...So there were no changes in the settings..

Thanks
Sachin

OK, more assumptions.
The network card, is it from your friends comp? The one that has excellent signal? It's settings are probably attached to it's MAC address.
Who manages this network? Is it just for you and your friends or is it a bigger setup (campus wide, etc...)?
Can you access the settings on the router to verify your settings are acurate? Although nothing was changed on your computer directly, someone elses access may be taking precedence over yours and is now causing conflicts/slowdowns.
Sounds like it is time for a fresh start of your access to this network.
