I got a cable so u can plug in hard drives or cd drives into usb.It didnt come with any drivers or instructions.I have pluged in a cd and hard drive into usb and nothing.Do i need drivers or something to get them to work?
Make sure that the USB controller is enabled in BIOS, and there are no problems with it in Device Manager.
If those are ok, then see if any known working USB devices work. If not, then the USB hub may be bad.
If other USB devices work, then the drives may need software to work, depending on the O/S and the make and model of the drives.
Please post your drives' specs, and your O/S.

No USB hub, connected directly into my laptop.I have booted of live cd's with cd drive connected to USB.
WindowsXP
Hitachi 82.3GB
Artic CD-RDW
Looking in Device Manager there is a problem with USB Mass Storage Device when the hard drive is pluged in and it keeps asking me for drivers.Did recognise cd drive
