What exactly are you referring to when you say that it takes 5 minutes for the DVD-ROM to read?
Does the DVD-RW read either DVD+R, DVD+RW, or commercial DVD media?

both drives can read DVD+RW right away and a movie DVD. but not ones with data.

Have you tried using your burner to write to a DVD data disk and then see if it can read it?

on a Different PC yes but not this one i use it as a multi-session data DVD.

on the other hand it takes ages to read a disk even my vista disk which i got from college.
