I bought a new fan and it is too wide. I am using it anyway but it isn't screwed down. My boy friend said are you sure it's specs are a 32ish? I said well maybe not, since I don't see any for sale. I got the tape rule out and it does measurea a 38, so that is what I ordered. It is too thick but it is working. :0 Meanwhile. the kids stepped on my old one and it had the little prong that holds the fan plug secure into the board inside PC. I need to buy a prong and don't have any idea where to start. Your website is what prompted me to make the improvement/repair to my PC when I saw a helpful (older) thread on here. Now I need a little more help on how to buy a prong and what are they called and.. jeez. I cant find a pic yet. will post one if I do.

I am not really sure what you are asking, so it will need to wait for someone who can sort it out...

Fan sizes are actually measured in mm, not inches. Unless you are talking about the thickness in mm? And what fan is this, anyway? The CPU fan or a lowly case fan?
If this is just a case fan, it can run off the PSU instead of the mobo. You just need a little converter like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835999104) to go from the mini 3-pin fan power connector to the more common 4-pin molex. The shipping on that tiny item is too much, so I'd suggest popping into a local PC store and picking one up.
To fix the prong issue, just tape the fan power connector to the converter with electrical tape. Only use bona fide electrical tape, though. Not clear tape or duct tape or masking tape or any other kind of tape.

Still cant find a photo for you (to exactly demonstrate, but using off brand). but the way it is, white black red wires three holes in the end of the fans cord connector. the board I'm talking about has three metal prongs coming up out of it, there is a black piece that slides on and snaps into place on the fans wire connector piece which enables its stability. I would like to find the piece that goes to my fan connector and also, measuring my fan itself like the one in the pics I'm showing, well i wanted to know is there something subtracted when measuring them by hand. mine is a 99 x 33 spec (approx, cant remember exact) when I queried on the internet. But when I HAND measured the one I actually have it seemed quite thicker and the numbers did not match. SO I guess now i have ordered the wrong part....... anyway, thanks for trying to help ...

Oh, it's a Dell! Ok, that explains a lot. Yeah, you'll need to order a new CPU fan assembly from Dell. That configuration is not standard, and only Dell has the parts. Nothing else you can do, unfortunately.
