Could anyone give me a rating on the Gigabyte GA-7VRX mobo. I am researching a build using an AMD 1800 xp cpu. I really like the features of this board (pc2700 ram, 2.0 usb etc.) But it seems really cheap compared to the bigger brand names (Asus, Abit)? My local shop has the GA on for 125$ (Canadian) versus 250$+ for those other boards. Is it a good buy? Should I steer clear of Gigabyte altogether? Any information would be helpful.
p.s. Any canucks out there know a good online computer store that's canadian.
Thanks

I know what you mean about Asus and Abit. They have gotten such great reveiws for years and years and have established themselves so well as brand names that I think it went to their heads. Their mobos have been increasing in price while everyone else's has been decreasing. Although they do typically provide slightly better performing mobos, I doubt at this point that anyone would really notice.

Not to say that buying a good, solid mobo isn't advisable, but somehow I don't think Asus and Abit mobos are worth their "god-like" prices. Most of their extra features nowadays are geared towards overclocking; and with today's CPU pricing (even the P4), who needs to overclock anymore?

I still remember not too long ago that a decent, mid-range CPU cost $350 or more, now it's about $90 ($180 for a P4)! Shoot, no wonder I keep hearing less and less about overclocking.

I built two systems using Gigabyte boards. They were of the older variety, but they were fast, stable and easy to set up.

I have had a Gigabyte GA-6VX7-4X motherboard on my PIII 800 system for about a year and a half. After correcting a bad Windows ME installation, I have never (YES, NEVER!!) had a crash or BSOD on this machine. Virtually troublefree. Setup was easy. I had concerns too at first because it was cheap and I had heard some bad things about Gigabyte boards before. The board you are speaking of sounds like a good choice and for the price, I say go for it!!

I was looking at the GA-7vxrp board for my new system, well after reading posts over at amdmb.com I saw that there were many people out there having problems with the board. Many had to raise the AGP voltage to get their video cards to be stable.

So I choose the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU, my system is solid, stable and easy to get up and running!:D Doesn't have the onboard LAN, but it has everything else.
